Total Class Response Tools

The power of having devices in the classroom become evident very quickly when utilizing the devices to have all students answer questions posed during a lesson or brainstorm ideas generated from classroom discussions.  The devices in the students' hands become a great way to go beyond calling on one or two hands in the classroom and start engaging ALL students as they provide evidence of their learning in various ways.  Students are having fun being actively engaged in the lesson while the teacher is receiving valuable formative assessment information.

Nearpod

Description:  Take your presentations to a whole different level with the ability to synchronize all student devices to a single presentation.  While delivering content to all student screens, embed various comprehension questions as well as take students on virtual field trips.  Get real time feedback of all students' progress and share any student screen to other students in order to have deeper discussions.
Purpose:  Can be utilized throughout the day at any grade level to help in delivery of content through words, pictures, and video.   Embed questions to check for understanding and receive instant feedback of student progress.
Cost: ​Freemium - Free features include creating presentations with questions embedded.  Paid features include content library, ability to send students to specific websites, and self-paced lesson capability.

Padlet

Picture
Description:   Padlet is a virtual classroom cork board that allows students to place their thoughts about a topic through phrases, pictures, videos, or websites.  The teacher creates a padlet, shares the link with students, and then students begin to share their thinking.  Thoughts from the class can be recorded in free-form, grid, or streaming.
Purpose: Anytime quick brainstorming is needed that includes the voices of all students in the classroom, rather than a few raised hands, Padlet is the way to go.   Padlet could be used when introducing a new topic or sharing learning about a topic after a  lesson has been presented.
Cost: ​Free - There is a premium feature for schools that allows more privacy and analytics of student use.

Kahoot

Picture
Description:  Kahoot is a very entertaining, high energy "gameshow" like way to quiz students.  It also allows for discussions and polls to collect formative data about your class around a certain topic.  There are many prebuilt public Kahoots that can be utilized in class or you can create your own from scratch.  No student login is required, just share the join code and let the fun begin.
Purpose:  A quick and entertaining way to quickly gather information about student knowledge of topics before, during, or after lessons.  Kids love it!!

AnswerGarden

Description: A simple tool that allows a teacher to collect the thinking from every student and see the collective thinking in a live word cloud to lead to further discussion with students about the words that stand out. 
Purpose:  AnswerGarden could be used as a tool to collect prior knowledge from all students at the beginning of a lesson.  It could also be used to highlight the collective thoughts of the entire class at any point throughout a lesson and lead to class discussions around terms that stand out.

Quizizz

Picture
Description:  Quickly assign students multiple choice quizzes in a fun game-like format students enjoy.  Use quizzes already created in the extensive database or create your own custom quizzes using your own questions or questions pulled from other quizzes already in the system.  Results are stored for the teacher to reference in real time or at a later time.
Purpose:  This could be used as a great tool to review concepts that have been covered in a lesson as a quick check, during, or after instruction.  It is very quick and easy to get students excited about showing their knowledge with this tool.
