Accelerate​d Reader
​District wide reading program for 2-12th graders and some 1st graders

The AR Process

Quick Steps to Successful Implementation:
  1. Each student completes the STAR Reading Assessment to determine the reading range for each student.  For directions, see "Determine Student Reading Levels" below.
  2. Each student reads a book that falls within his/her individual reading range and tracks progress on a reading log
  3. Student logs into the Renaissance Place using their student login take a quiz on Accelerated Reader.  See "Printing a List of Student Logins" below to access all student logins.
  4. Teacher prints a diagnostic report once a week to track the progress of students.
Best Practices for Successful Implementation:
  • Have students keep a reading log to monitor their reading progress.  Sample Logs: ​Emergent Reader, ​Beginning Reader, ​Established Reader
  • Use the diagnostic report to check in with students and take a ​"Status of the Class" walk each day during designated AR time.  
  • Students should maintain an 85% or higher on quizzes or they need to read books lower on their reading range
  • Follow some of these additional best practices in the classroom to make AR as effective as possible.
